The representatives of Western and Eastern civilizations, two great musical figures, come together on the same stage with the “Sounds from the Depths: From Bach to Itrî” event series, which will take place within the Night Shift.
The 1500-year-old Basilica Cistern continues to open its doors to cultural and artistic events. Starting on January 18th, the “Sounds from the Depths: From Bach to Itrî” event series offers the opportunity to experience the enchanting atmosphere of the cistern through music.
In this event where the works and lives of Bach and Itrî, the common heritage of humanity, will meet the audience, we will once again witness the spiritual power of music that transcends all boundaries and the fact that it is the only language through which people from different civilizations can understand each other.
Under the direction of the Ensemble Orient – Occident Istanbul orchestra, a special selection performed by Hakan Dedeler (Tanbur), Eyüpcan Açıkpazu (Ney), Nurullah Ejder (Kanun), Ayşenur Ayyıldız Haksoy (Soprano), Gülşah Erol (Cello), Hande Önder (Piano), and Serhan Bali (Narrator, Baritone) will allow us to listen to the sounds coming from the depths of history.

About Bach and Itrî:
Buhurizade Mustafa Itrî lived between 1640 and 1711. Johann Sebastian Bach, born in 1685, passed away in 1750. These two great individuals honored our world together as cultural poles of two different civilizations during a period of twenty-five years.
